I’m building a lean-to on my land. It’s a permanent lean-to that’s big enough for two. That means I need a lot of poles. Fortunately, I have a lot of clusters of young pine trees that need to be cleared (per a US Forest Service recommendation.) Along with some naturally fallen trees, these young pines are the perfect size for the base and back of my lean-to. Of course, I need the right bushcraft tools to quickly and efficiently cut down trees. That’s where my Agawa Canyon BOREAL21 Folding Bow Saw comes in.

I bought the Agawa Canyon – BOREAL21 Tripper Kit when I quickly realized it would take too long to cut down all the trees with my hatchet. The kit includes the folding bow saw, a carrying case, and an extra blade.

The Agawa Canyon BOREAL21 Folding Bow Saw folds into a compact size, with the blades facing inward. The saw folds out and the yellow handle folds over to lock the blade securely into place.

I’ve used the saw to cut down trees ranging from 2 inch to about 12 inches in diameter. With a 21″ blade length, it took just a few cutting strokes to fell the smaller trees. I could feel the teeth of the saw blade cut through the pine trees with ease.

While most of the trees I’ve cut with the Agawa Canyon saw have been green, I have used it to cut through older, fallen trees. The saw handled cutting both types of wood.

The Agawa Canyon BOREAL21 Folding Bow Saw is lightweight and packs easily. I like keeping it in the case so I can carry it on my shoulder while moving any wood or trees I’ve just cut.
